Bringing the Beach Home....

(As always) We had such a wonderful & rejuvenating
visit down south....

Apart from a quick drive into the nearest town
for supplies ....

... where Hubby and I salivated over this sexy number
(Decked out with a bed and small kitchen in the back....sigh)

We spent the whole time either cosying up indoors with
wine and music ....

.... or rambling about on the beach, soaking up the
sun, relishing in the kind winter weather (no wind??)
and simply BEING.....

 The boys did "their thing"

And I did mine....

I'm addicted to beach combing... even if there are very few treasures.
I find the looking as much fun as the collecting.
My treasures this trip consisted of a few cuttings of plants
from the sand dunes - I wanted to try my hand at
a terrarium that reminded me of our beach visits....

Here's how I faired.....

Cuttings from plants - preferably with some roots still attached...

... clean beach sand ...

... pebbles for the base of the glass container
(for drainage) ...

... a few "coastal" treasures ...

... and an appropriate glass container
(mine's a small fishbowl shape)

Then I assembled it all, layering the
pebbles first, then the sand...

I tried to make sure that most of the plants still had
some of their roots attached...

... and I pressed them firmly into the sand....

I have no idea ho long it will last for or if indeed the plants
will take? I assume (0f course) they'll need warmth and loads
of light... maybe a bit of water from time to time
(Coastal dune plants are notoriously water wise)

Anyhooo... I'm pretty pleased with my whimsical
take on "bringing the beach home"

So what's happening in your
neck of the woods?
Have you had a super busy week like me?
Are you as excited about the up and
coming school vacations as I am?
We are going down south again - Yahooo!
(This time further away to Margaret River)

What have you had on your playlist lately?
We went to see this guy last night ...
His album is available FOR FREE so do yourselves
a favour and download some cool tunes for naught but
your absolute aural pleasure!

Love to you all!

Big Bang Theory....

Hmmmm.... In theory it seemed like a great idea.
Had this beautiful lady's hair in mind,
as I trotted off to get the six week trim.
Had a spring in my step and a song in my heart.
(Ok thats' a lie... I was nervous as .... well... possible - I'm not big on change)
Looked great the day it was done....

.... by the hairdresser!

Woke up the following day to a fringe that
DID NOT recognise the fundamental premise of gravity.
(Chose not include photo of this to avoid public humiliation)

I guess that's why they (hairdressers) are the experts and why it's true
when they say:

Don't get a haircut on an emotional day!

How bout you?
Had any Hairdasters (Hair+Disaster)
that you'd like
to share?

How's the weekend looking?
We're off to the beach house.
It will be a cosy affair involving board games,
red wine and long walks.

Have a good one peoples!

PS -  I'm taking bobby pins.

Peace, my heart, let the time for
the parting be sweet.
Let it not be a death but completeness.
Let love melt into memory and pain
into songs.
Let the flight through the sky end
in the folding of the wings over the
Let the last touch of your hands be
gentle like the flower of the night.
Stand still, O Beautiful End, for a
moment, and say your last words in
I bow to you and hold up my lamp
to light you on your way.

~Rabindranath Tagore
Thank you to everyone who left a comment on my last post
Sweet darling Daphne passed on, in my arms,
only a few short minutes after I published that post.
My gratitude extends well beyond the
limitations of my selfish
Having lost so many loved ones I know
full well the grief that can seep in and the memories
that are dredged up every time I part ways with a soul
 that I've come to love.
It's ok.
It's life.
It's what makes us so very specially, indescribably,
mystifyingly... Human

I wish you all a very very special day.
Remember ... every breath IS our life.

The Blues....

My darling Daphne is very ill.
(She's one of my feathered friends)
I know I have to let go but it's so hard (you know?)
Facing up to something that hurts and sucks and makes a day just yuk.
My sadness led me to my camera and my camera led me to the colour blue.
Please say a prayer for a teeny tiny life that has brought me so much joy.
(If that's not your thing that's cool - maybe just a wish then?
Or go and cuddle your animal friends, or light a candle or play a song....)
If she has to go then so be it - I would just like it to be peaceful and painless.
I love you Daphne.

I love you my Son.... ♥

I walked with my son this evening. Dusk settled upon us with
a chill that reminded my why I love Winter so.
Red faced and puffing we jogged a few yards and walked a few more.

We had, had "a chat" after school today. The parent needed to be the
parent (whatever that really means) and the teenage boy needed to be
the teenage boy ♥....

It was serious and funny and loose and real. We discussed what
we thought it meant to be free. We agreed and we disagreed.
The decision then to move our bodies was mutual... the pace was uneven.
At one point I fell behind at another I lead the way.

When we arrived home I noticed a Wattle Bird
perched in the branches of our naked Poplar.
Waiting to strike, darting and swooping  - catching dinner
whilst displaying his skills as an aerial acrobat.

It didn't last all that long and, as he flew away,
I thought again about freedom.....
